RPGaDay 2024

It’s RPGaDay time again. August. When a whole load of RPG fans talk about our hobbies in various ways.

Follow the conversation on the RPGaDay Facebook page. Here are my posts this year:

The idea, as the name suggests, is to create some sort of media every day in August.

I wasn’t going to take part at all – at a quick glance I thought it was a repeat of last year, and I generally go for deep dives on my blog, which doesn’t fit with posting every day – until I saw this post by Che Webster eulogising about dice. That made me look at the prompts again, and inspired me to consider taking part again this year.

But it’s already the 29th, and I haven’t started…so once again I’m going to be playing catch-up.

My excuses: first, I live in Edinburgh, and August is the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe. So not only am I out attending shows (though not nearly as many as my wife, who managed around 75 shows this year as well as the daily ceilidhs she ran herself), but we’re also family B&B for family who want to come and attend…and so we go around with them. Which takes up time.

Second, IONOS announced they were shutting down the virtual server I use for my dancing web site and FoundryVTT at the end of August, so I had to transfer, and I had had various issues so decided to move to a new host (Hostinger, in case you’re interested. Seems reliable so far, and if you sign up via that link you get 20% off and I get commission).

And then, at the end of July I started a series of posts comparing the successors to D&D 5E, and I felt my next post really also needed to continue that series. But it takes a lot of time going through three manuals and comparing and contrasting… (and also I work full time, so this requires spare time). I finally finished put out part 2 Overall Structure yesterday.

So now I have time to start responding. I’ll try to be different to previous years…

The prompts

There are two different approaches this year. First the classic prompts:

For those for whom that doesn’t work, or for whom a particular prompt doesn’t work, a new alternate set suggested by Skala Wyzwania. Look at the day on the left for the theme. Roll d10 to find out what to create for that theme.

If you can’t read these, the text versions are on Autokratik’s web site.
